Can ethernet be used for both direct connect and network access?

Network & Sharing center say I have Internet access, but I can't connect.?

  • Last night, for no discernible reason, my internet connection stopped working. I am connected to a router via a wireless USB adapter. The router is working, as both a computer hooked up via ethernet and yet another via wireless are working fine. Basically, the problem is somewhere within my system. It takes the normal amount of time for the adapter to connect, at least, according to the UI, and then the computer itself connects to my network. The icon in the system tray shows I have access, and everything in the Network and Sharing Center indicates I have access. But when I actually try to go onto the web, the page refuses to load, and Google Chrome (I also tried IE) tells me it was unable to connect. I am going to soon try linking it to the router directly via ethernet cable, thus bypassing the adapter I have and seeing if it is the problem. I have also tried rebooting my router, and it did nothing. Any help is appreciated!

  • Answer:

I agree that the problem is with your computer, probably the USB adapter. Try it in another computer if you can. If your wired connection works and other wireless devices work in the same area then that is where you problem lies more than likely.
