What Happens If An Unmanaged Ethernet Switch Is Looped?

Issues with ethernet connection on Desktop PC?

  • I have been having a issue with my computer recently and I cannot seem to figure out what is going on. When I turn on my computer, sometimes I will get a message saying that my ethernet cable is unplugged, even tho it is plugged in and the only way to fix it is to unplug the ethernet cable for my computer from my switch and plug it back in and repeat until the light comes on, usually after the first try. It is only happening with my computer, only started happening recently, tried a different switch, different port on the switch, updated the network driver, but still it happens. It also happens if when it is working and I unplug the cable and plug it back in, then it does the same thing as when I start it up. I am using Windows 7 x64, and it is an onboard network card, NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Any ideas on a solution would be much appreciated.

  • Answer:

try geting a new patch cable. also make sure that it is clicking when inserted this holds the conection tight . it sounds like a cable or port on the computer problem. look in the port on the pc and see iff there is any dirt bent wires etc in it. try pulling the metel leads up a liitle but they may bey lose not making conection. else go get a pci or pcie nic and install that one instead.

Try changing the cable. Ethernet cables are pretty sensitive, and break more often than it seems they would.
