What to do if ISP doesnt let torrents work?
-
I have BT broadband (UK), just had it installed yesterday, and today I decided to try downloading a film via uTorrent, it at first worked fine, but then it became limited to only 11 kB/s :S i tried another torrent, same problem, I tried a different programme (Vuze, better known as Azureus) and same problem, I've tried encrypting the torrents and all kinds of stuff, but I'm still at downing only 11 (if not less) kB.... WHAT DO I DO? (apart from change provider) any help would be great :) <3

Answer:
Most ISPS block or severely limit Torrents as they hog all the capacity. Not much you can do

The only thing that will really work is changing provider, the only ones i know of that dont block bitorrent anymore is o2 home broadband and sky broadband. Virgin media have started doing it, and any provider that has a high customer base but not enough bandwith will also do it.
They might block torrents because of bandwidth usage, or they might block them because of copyright issues. If you are trying to download a commercial film, you are almost certainly breaking copyright laws, and they might be legally required to try to prevent this.
Some internet service providers limit the bandwidth available through commonly used torrent ports. It might be worth changing the default port that your application is using to something else. Remember that you will have to open this new port in your firewall if applicable for you to connect. The link below should help you: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/PortIsBlacklisted
