Which is a better configuration for server?

EMAIL CONFIGURATION IN SERVER & CLIENT?

  • Hi friends, I need the help for the following: I am having two computers – 1 Server (O/S Win 2000 Server edition) & 1 client (O/S Win 2000 professional) connected with Lan. And also having broadband connection (ASIANET) connected in client for email purpose. Now I need to emails (Outgoing & Incoming) in my Server machine also. Kindly confirm whether it is possible to configure the Outlook express 6 (Not Microsoft outlook) in server & client machine using one broadband connection. If yes please inform the configuration details. Or if any offline software is available for email sharing, plz inform. NOTE : Due to some problems, I am unable to change the broadband connection from client to server. Thanks in advance CSGanesh

  • Answer:

Yes, you can configure them both the same on each machine to get your mail on both. But if you are using a POP server, then you will want to go to the advanced settings for your email account and be sure to check the box to allow you to keep mail on the server. Make the time period long enough that you will check both machines within that time period always. If you don't get a lot of mail, then 30 days might be a good number before deleting from the server. But this will work. You will need to be sure that both machines can get to the Internet (maybe use Internet connection sharing if you don't have enough hardware to make a small network) for it to work this way. I wish I could see your setup to give you more specifics. Good Luck!
