How do connect my laptop to my works wireless?

Why does my laptop asks me to renew ip address when trying to connect wireless and nothing works!!?

• Ok so i Have a Basic N Belkin router installed in my Windows xp desktop computer..i do get wi-fi signal in my phone with no problem..my desktop is working perfeclty fine but when i try to connect my laptop to the router using a netgear 82.11b card to get internet connection it says that it was not able to find a certify for the network and then it says little or low connectivity and that i might not be able to access internet...The signal is at its fullest but when this message shows up i hit repair and it says could not renew ip address..what is wrong?! its driving me crazy! i already tried the release/renew address and change settings on the router and nothing has worked! Please help any help would be highly appreciate it!!!!!!!!Thanks in advance!!!

  Chances are, you're older 802.11b card is not capable of WPA or WPA2 security, only WEP and your Belkin Wireless Router is set to use WPA or WPA2 encryption. Try changing, temporarily, to NO security and see if then it can connect. If that works, try using WEP and see if that works. I wouldn't then try WPA, because I'm pretty sure WPA didn't exist when 802.11b cards were being manufactured. You may have to visit the Belkin website to get instructions on how to do this..but suffice to say. Open up IE and type in http://192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 Type in your admin username/password Click on Wireless Click on Wireless Security Choose the level of security from the drop down menu. Type in a 10-26 character security code. Make sure to write the code down. Hit Save Wait 2-5 minutes TEST
