Why is Ps3 internet not working?

Networking problems with my PS3?

  • I have my PS3 connected via Ethernet to my PC, where my PC keeps it internet (as my PS3 Wireless card is not as good as my pc wireless card) Ive activated Internet Sharing, it was working all great intill i followed a few guides to allow me to stream media from my PC to PS3, now it is not allowing me to obtain a IP address as it is constantly coming out with a error Obtaining IP Address Timed out. But the odd thing is i can now stream media from my pc to ps3, yet it keeps saying its fails to obtain a ip address in the settings, i have tryed both Easy and Custom in the network settings neither seems to work, i have also tryed connecting to the internet on the ps3 but it just gives me a message refering me back to the network settings, can anyone please help me? Thanks

Have you tried assigning it a static IP address? Since you're using internet connection sharing, a simple solution is to set the PS3's IP address to something like 192.168.0.2 Gateway address will be 192.168.0.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0 That'll solve the IP problem but I have no idea what it'll do to your media streaming setup

i bought the new ps3 slim when if first came out and to my amazement i was shocked at how bad the wireless was on it. Unless it was in the same room as the router it would constantly disconnect or just not connect at all. (i currently use the BT home hub 2.0) The best thing i ever did regarding my PS3 was to buy a "powerline" kit from ebuyer.com, the link to which i will place at the bottom. They effectively use the power cables in your house as Ethernet cables and transfer the data direct from your router to your ps3, my ps3 is very stable now and far quicker than wireless in every way. There is 1 catch to powerline adapters working (both the floor the router is on and the ps3 is on must be connected up to the same fuse box for it to work) ....if your house only has 1 fuse box that covers the whole house they you won't have a problem
