Use At&t 2Wire 2701HG-B in bridge mode with roadrunner cable internet?
-
I have roadrunner cable internet and I am using Terayon TJ 715 as a cable modem... It only has one ethernet port and it doesn't act as a wireless router. I decided to connect it to a 2wire 2701hg-b modem/wireless router that I have lying around the house because I don't have money to buy a wireless router... I put the 2wire modem in bridge mode and I connected the Ethernet cable from the Terayon cable modem to the 1st ethernet port on the 2wire. I then ran two Ethernet cables from port 3 and 4 of the 2 wire to connect it to 2 different computers. However, when one computer connects to the internet, the other does not... Is there any way to connect both computers at the same time? Also, is there a way for the 2wire to act as a wireless access point so that the computers connect wirelessly to the internet instead of through the ethernet cables? As you can tell, I don't know anything about networking and help is much appreciated.. Thank you =)

Answer:
You won't be able to use the 2wire gateway the way you want it to work. I assume that the 2wire is a DSL gateway and so only has a DSL port for the WAN connection. Sorry, but you will need to get a router that has an Ethernet WAN port and connect it to the cable modem if you want more than one device on the Internet. The way you have it setup now, it uses the cable modem to get the IP address and the cable provider will only offer one public IP address unless you have a higher priced plan. On the upside, there are tons of wireless routers available. You may be able to pick a used one up for under $30 and possibly a new older model for around that price.
