How to write/get the code to extract MAC address of a device sensed by the WI-FI router?
-
Hello, here is my issue. I basically want to know i) MAC address of a device connected to the wi-fi ii)i want to know from which access point the device is currently accessing. I really need these two data in my application program, in my project... Can anybody tell me the software part of "how to extract these data"? Do we have to separately write a piece of code ? Is there any server side program which already performs this action? etc...

Answer:
check to see if the router supports snmp. If it does, set a read community string. If it supports snmp, it must have a mib that specifies the format. How to extract it? One way is to use snmpwalk/snmpcmd, a Unix based utility based on UC/Davis snmp. Perl has Net::SNMP will be able to access it if you like perl.

go to opensourceforge....those programs already exists
assuming that the devices are in the same room, the router should have a sticker on the side somewhere, the router will also tell you its mac address in the config, and if your connecting to something smart (iphone) or another pc or something of that nature in your router config there is a list of access controls list listing all macs connected, also most devices will tell you their mac in their settings hopes this helps, post what type of router you have and i can get in real deep depth of how to do so.
when you log into the router you can see attached devices where you can get the mac address of the devices..well or else in the command prompt c:/..>route Print..or tracert "ip address"..i think from these info ..you can get some idea
