How do I issue multiple commands using telnet or netcat?

I can't connect to any hosts using Telnet?

  • I tried finding a network using Zenmap and in doing so I typed in maybe..three different IP addresses, all were correct to my assumption. However, no IP addresses would work. I figured I'd go directly to Telnet and try to connect to their host. I typed in as follows: o XX.XX.XXX.XXX 23 (The host being 23) I used 23 because most people are connected to that and if I were to be given a correct host in using Zenmap then maybe I'd succeed, however Zenmap won't work for me. What am I missing?

  • Answer:

I would hope not. Nobody in their right mind turns on telnet servers any more. It is a very old and seriously insecure protocol. It is generally only used now for very short periods for testing mail server and similar connections.

Other answers

Telnet o xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ppp If you don't have the correct IP and the correct PORT (23 in your example is the port, not the host), then you'll only see a "connect failed" message without knowing for sure if there is actually a Telnet server at that ip address. Also, try mTelnet: http://ozone.eesc.com/
