"could not resolve host" on solaris OS 5.8 ?

i get an error when connecting to a site, hosted on solaris server. error is: could not resolve host domainname ( . e.g. aa.axxb.sds.com ) i can ping the ip address! can not ping the domain name though. When i use the domain using http://domainname, the site opens. just the problem is error when trying to connect. can anyone let me know whats with this?? Thanks a ton. Yes, i am newbie to the solaris stuff..

Answer:
If the site opens you have resolved the name. If it is a public server that is not yours it very well may not respond to pings. I don't have any public server I run anywhere respond to pings off their lan.
