Charter cable says our modem is old and can't 'talk?

  • charter cable is our new internet service. Charter says our modem is old and can't 'talk' to charter. Charter wants to sell us a modem and router combo and charge $10.00 monthly for modem router combo. All wireless products work only the desktop is not able to get on internet. I don't want to buy from charter and pay $30 Internet monthly charge plus $10 modem router charge. Desktop can't find internet it only tries dialup connection. Help

    What they are saying is that your modem is no longer supported which means it can't connect to the internet the Router is a wireless device that can connect any computer or laptop to the internet while being hooked up through your modem what they are charging you is ok i guess but it would be much better to go and buy a modem and router from best buy or wal mart so that way if your internet gets shut off they wont come to you asking for there modem or router back
