Is our IP address always the same?

Machine keeps getting a reserved ip address?

  • I have a server with a reserved address A, and a laptop with dynamic address controlled by the DCHP server. Our DCHP server distributes the IP address so that a machine gets the same IP address until the machine is not using the IP address for 3 days. When a machine wants to use the machine again, it will give the machine a new IP address. Now my case is that no one has ever gotten a ip address collision before. Suddenly last wednesday, a machine got an ip conflict with one of our server. We tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, and it will give the machine a new IP address. BUT, it will receive the same ip address that conflicts with the server the next day. This has been going on since wednesday. Can someone give me an idea what might be the problem? We confirmed that the DCHP server has listed the server as a reserved ip address, yet it is still able to send that ip address consistently.

What DHCP server is this (Microsoft, ISC, etc)? Really need that information to start troubleshooting.
