How do I connect laptop to internet?

How would i connect my laptop wirelessley to the internet using a modem and router?

  • Previously i have had my (advent) wireless laptop connected to the internet using only a modem and a router, however i unplugged the router to try and restart the wireless connection to create a new password in order for other people to use the wireless function. i then followed the instructions to install the wireless router again and it required me to connect the laptop and router with an ethernet cable. Which means the only way now i can get the internet on my laptop is by connecting it with a wire. It's probably something very simple but i can not seem to work out how to get my laptop connected back to the internet wirelessley. please help!

  • Answer:

With the router attached to the modem, connect an ethernet cable from the router to your computer then run the cd, keep it plugged in so you can login to the routers ip setup so you can create a personal security key, use 10 digits

if you've installed the router again then you will need an ethernet cable to connect because the wireless won't be set up yet. You need to connect to the router with a cable and go to the router's config page (usually something like 192.168.1.1 in your browser). Here, set an SSID, (a name for your wireless network) and set a wpa2 password. Then simply unplug the ethernet cable from the laptop and connect to the wireless network you just set up

Usually the router comes with a disk which will help you set up the wireless. First though, check in device manager to see if your wireless adapter is recognised and is working correctly. If yes, follow the wizard on the disk, if not, try reinstalling the driver for the wireless adapter, also on the disk. Report back if you don't mind, so we know what fixed it for you.

most laptops have a button that enables the wifi, i accidently push once in a while. if its not that go to this button that says connect to then pick your routers name. and if its not that try going to the router that you have's webpage they usually have answers to help you connect your laptop.
