What is a server address on minecraft?

How to setup a Minecraft server when my IPv4 address is 10.0.0.1?

  • I've been trying to setup a Minecraft server but I'm in over my head it seems. Here's the data... Router/modem: -Xfinity SMCD3GNV When I run CMD prompt & Ipconfig: -Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : hsd1.md.comcast.net. Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::75b3:8f45:451a:c525%10 IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.2 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.1 When I google "Ip Address" I receive: -68.##.##.## (last 6 numbers hidden for privacy) When I log into my router and setup port forwarding, using 25565 as a port forward, I wont let me use my Googled IP Address as it states, "ip address must be in gateways subnet". I'm trying to simply setup a server so family members who play may be able to use our own server. Any help would be most appreciated.

  • Answer:

    you port forward to the 10.0.0.2, and then give friends the 68.#.#.# Your router puts the clues together that you want anything coming in from the internet to 10.0.0.2 when it's on that port. If your Ip changes, give your friends the new ip, or sign up with no-ip.com or dyndns, whichever you prefer.
