Is it cheaper to live on campus or get an apartment in college?

Campus PAT/ X-box 360 & live question....?

  • So heres the deal: I live on a college campus and I access the internet through a wall cable (no router) through a PPPOE. The campus network has a "strict" PAT and tries to block accessibility to x-box live through, its network BUT I was able to connect through it last night and played for several joy-filled hours. I dont know how I did it, but I cant repeat it and now that Ive tasted x-box live in bed, its hard to not want to get it. So This is a very open-ended question and anyone who can help me with even one of these questions will be a personal hero of mine. Here goes: 1. There is an option on x-box live that lets me connect if I can find my pppoe username and password. As I remember, I didnt create one I just entered my apartment info and it now just detects my computer (possibly to keep this from happening).... but I could be wrong. Its been a while. How can I get it to where it wont recognize my computer again and send me back to registration screen so I can see if I did infact create a username and password or if thats a lost cause? 2. My computer only has one outlet for cable connection, but is there still some other way that I could network my computer and xbox 360 to where I can piggyback my internet connection to my 360 so the PAT wont be able to stop it? 3. Are there any other fellow college students who faced this same problem and found a way around it? 4. Is this a lost cause and I just got lucky enough to catch some kind of network update that allowed my 360 to slip through for just one night of fun?

  • Answer:

I had the same problem, only my campus has a wireless conection. I simply connect with computer and run and ethernet cable from my computer to my xbox360. After doing that and establishing a wireless connection I go into Network Places and place a bridge between the wireless network and your LAN connection, this should work like a charm! You create a bridge by selecting your wireless connection then ctrl+click your LAN connection, right click, and select bridge connections, it's all automatic from there.
