Can i connect my macbook to my moms imac ethernet?

my room is literally 5 feet away from her imac but id still like to be able to connect to the internet from my room or around the house...we have comcast cable internet which comes up as ethernet on my moms imac..we have a cable modem and everything...would i be able to pick up internet from her computer? please help :) i dont know much about this kinda stuff so step by step will be needed!

You would need to get a wireless router to attach to the modem and your mom's computer. You would probably need someone with more knowledge than you have to help you set it up if you know as little as you say. The setup on a Mac is a little more complicated than on a PC. Get your mother to see if there is a Mac User group in your area. They usually have people who are willing to help newcomers to the Mac world.
