Why is my PC internet slow when I use Xbox live?

How can I use the Internet for Xbox Live and on my PC simultaneously with just one ethernet port on my modem?

  • I have a modem that seems to be outdated (beige lol). It has but one ethernet socket, which I obviously use with my PC. In order to connect my Xbox360 to Live, I have to physically switch the ethernet cables. This can be a bit of a problem living with a roommate who, like myself, is too poor to spring for a laptop or any sort of wireless device. We split pretty much every bill, so I can't exactly deny him web access when I'm on the xbox. My question basically what the best way to split the Internet between PC and xbox is. My first thoughts were to connect the modem to the pc via usb, but I've no idea what drivers are required. My current idea is to just get a new modem. Wireless routers are not an option btw.

  • Answer:

you can buy an ethernet hub/switch. take your pick, they are all basically the same http://www.newegg.com/store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=30&Tpk=ethernet%20switch
