How do I access/create a WEP key?

  • Okay, so I'm trying to play online with my DS, and I've been following the instructions that Nintendo gave me, but I can't seem to find the WEP key for my router. The instructions say "Make sure you are entering the actual WEP key and not a Pass Phrase. If the WEP key in your router settings is hidden, then you may need to manually enter a WEP key. Use a 10 digit number that is easy for you to remember." So, does this mean I have to CREATE a WEP key for my router? Because I know when I go to my router's properties there is something called "Network key", which has 8 digits. Is this the WEP? If I do need to make a WEP key, how exactly do I go about doing that? Anyways, this is very confusing and any clarification is much appreciated!

    Are you trying to setup a WiFi network for the first time? If so, make up a WEP key. For 64-bit WEP, it should be 10 characters, each of which must be chosen from this list '0123456789ABCDEF'. For example, '84903AF4E3'. Update: If you already have a WiFi network set up, enter the WEP key that was set up when the router was installed/configured. If you didn't install/configure the router, ask the person who did or look on the bottom of the router for a sticker.

check under the router or on a browser go to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or what ever your router config is and like you said it is under network key. I remember I had to mess around with mine a little to get it to work with WII

There will be a default WEP/WPA key printed on your router. Check the router label. If you don't find it, then you need to open the router settings page on your PC to view the key. If the default key is not working, it means that its been changed. In this case you need to open the router settings page on your computer.
