How do i connect my wii to the internet?

How can I connect my Wii to the internet if the internet is from a computer tethered to a cell phone?

  • I connect my PC to the internet by tethering the computer to my cell phone at 3G speed. How can I connect my Wii to the internet if the internet is from a computer tethered to a cell phone? The Wii has a built in Wifi card but need additional equipment to connect from a LAN line. Do I use the existing wireless card on the computer or a wireless router I have laying around? Maybe there are other ways to connect the Wii if I tether my computer to a cell phone. I don't have DSL or Cable internet connection but the cell phone connection is just as fast as DSL.

  • Answer:

If you have a wireless adapter on the PC that has internet access then you don't need to buy additional equipment. Go into control panel and open up the Network Connections screen. You should have at least 2, one being the wireless card and one being the 3G internet connection. If you're running XP there should be an option down the left side for setting up Internet Connection Sharing (you can do this on Vista too but can't remember if you have to right click the 3G connection?). Click it and follow the wizard to share the 3G connection - it should set up everything for you if you read it carefully. Now just rescan for wireless connections on your Wii :)

You can't unless you have a wireless network. It doesn't matter how fast the connection is. You need a router and Cable. Bluetooth interwebz won't cut it.

This is what I would try... As opposed to Windows Internet Connection sharing, I would set up a Proxy server on the PC. The proxy server gets it's Internet IP Address from the ISP. You configure the network lan settings to use the proxy and get it working. Then install a wireless card, probably in ad-hoc mode and configure it to get it's ip address from the proxy server. Next, set the Wii to get it's Ip address from the proxy. To do all this and setup the proxy correctly you may need to discover what the IP address scheme you are getting assigned by the Cell Phone connection. After connecting Go to the run command and type CMD and click ok. At the dos prompt type IPconfig /all. That will display all your IP addresses, netmasks, default gateway and DNS server info you may need. Expect your personal firewall to conflict with some of this. It will provide some protection because of NAT(network address translation). You may find you can turn off the firewall somewhat safely but not entirely safely. At least temporarily while you figure out what the network ip ranges to allow that got assigned to the connections by the Proxy server. You also may need to "bridge" the wireless and the cell connection. Good Luck

You can buy a Wifi bridge. This allows the internet connection of your PC to be shared via Wifi.
