Xbox 360/ 802.11a Router Help?

  • I need help choosing a router to use with my Xbox 360, specifically the Windows Media Extender. Currently, I have Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router. Though, I don’t know if it has to do with my internet service provider or the router itself, but since my brother got a notebook, there have been issues when the connection would slow down to the point where the connection essentially goes down. This usually happens when there are 4 connections all running at the same time, including the computer wired to the router. However, when I reset the router, that usually fixes the problem. Anyway, when I try to connect Windows Media Center to the Xbox 360, it tells me that my bandwidth is too low, especially to view TV, and to change to an 802.11a connection. I assume this will also be a problem when streaming Netflix becomes available on the 360 next month. What type of 802.11a router do you recommend? Perhaps, something that isn’t too expensive but something that’s works well and is reliable.

  • Answer:

I wouldn't recommend any 802.11a...the reason that it slows down is cause 4 of you are sharing the bandwidth that your router is putting out....if someone is downloading music or something then that will eat it up and make viewing tv an impractical option.
