Router says I am running a bittorrent application but in reality I'm not?
-
So, I know that the title of this question is a little confusing, but I need some help with my computer, or rather, my network. I'm in my teens, and my brother is in his early twenties. He is the network administrator for our house, so he has the password to make changes to the router and its connections to all of my family's computers. So one day he starts putting port blocks on my computer so that I can browse the internet, but I can't play games online, and use programs like Steam. I asked him why he did this, and he said that I had a bittorrent application and he could "<i>see</i>" it on the network. Because he didn't want me pirating any games, he blocked most if not all of the ports from the router connecting to my computer. Here's the twist though: I didn't have any bittorrent application on my computer. I admit in the past, about a year ago, I had Bitcomet on there, but I've uninstalled it long since then and I haven't used bittorent since then. So if I'm not using a bittorrent, how can he "see" that I have something running on my computer of that nature, even though I'm not? My first conclusion was that I might have some program running on my computer that uses a Bittorrent protocol, but I looked at my list of installed programs and nothing really looked like it used that kind of protocol. I've included a list of all of the programs I have installed on my computer (taken from the control panel): Adobe Photoshop CS3 Adobe Systems Incorporated 2/29/2012 10.0 Adobe Reader X (10.1.2) Adobe Systems Incorporated 2/29/2012 117.3 MB 10.1.2 AMD Catalyst Install Manager Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. 2/28/2012 20.2 MB 3.0.859.0 Apple Application Support Apple Inc. 2/29/2012 62.9 MB 2.1.6 Apple Mobile Device Support Apple Inc. 2/29/2012 24.3 MB 4.0.0.97 Apple Software Update Apple Inc. 2/29/2012 2.38 MB 2.1.3.127 avast! Answer:
I have an online game: Call of duty and used to have an issue with Steam application. I am not sure if you can try by pass the router to see if it works, to eliminate the issue with your router. I posted the link so that you can try to troubleshoot and the steps I used. I also checked the port that needs to be activated. If by passing the router and it works, then there is a problem with the router settings. Hope it helps.
