What is yahoo's server provider?

Best dedicated server provider for low ping times?

  • We are setting up a gaming server for a very highly populated game server 400-800~ users, it is currently on a server but experiencing that a lot of international players are getting very high ping times and alot of packet loss. More than what it should be.. I was wondering if someone can point me to a dedicated server provider/datacenter/collocation that has a very good worldwide network map so that international users (primarily European and Australian users) would get better ping times. The server provider would need to be located in USA. Please let me know, I am not interesting much in the hardware specs or if they are a large company or not, i just need them to have an extremely good and solid network map to all major transits to reduce player ping times as much as possible. Thanks in advance

due to earthquakes around tiwan area many undersea cables were killed so service dropped heavly. the big telecom guys just completed a new HUGH undersea fiber from usa to tiwan and singapore and will extend it to japan. so speeds should go up and pings come down New Trans-Pacific undersea cable turned on September 30, 2008 — 11:09am ET | By Doug Mohney Related Stories * Verizon activates multi-national TPE services * Shareholders of China Unicom, China Telecom approve deals * China Telecom profit, voice revenue down * The latest from China: Unicom, Telecom buys proceed Tools * Email * Print * Comment * Contact Author The first phase of the Trans-Pacific Express (TPE) submarine cable system has been activated. The new 18,000 kilometer (over 11,000 mile) fiber optic undersea cable directly connects Mainland China, the U.S., South Korea and Taiwan. Currently, the system runs at 5.12 terabits. When phase two is completed, TPE will be a 6 terabit system. Initial carriers investing in TPE were China NetCom, China Telecom, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, Korea Telecom and Verizon Business; AT&T and NTT Communications signed on earlier this year. The addition of NTT also added a cable landing site to Japan, making for a total of six sites - one in Japan, two in mainland China, and one each in Taiwan, South Korea, and the U.S. expect new mappings http://www.fiercetelecom.com/story/new-trans-pacific-undersea-cable-turned/2008-09-30 remember the real mappings will be hidden from terrorists

European users will get high ping times to US servers. US users will get high ping times to European servers. There's nothing you can do about it - the longer the path, the higher the ping time. Most of the larger server host providers can give you what you need, with extremely low ping times to local users. What happens after that is beyond the control of the provider. (I'm getting a 40ms ping to my GoDaddy-hosted site in California, from my desk in New York. From Europe it would probably be considerably longer.)
