How to play stream files?

How can I play and stream .ISO files?

  • I have a computer running Ubuntu with some .ISO movie files on it. I want to know how I can stream that video to my laptop running windows 7. I already have all the sharing stuff set up and everything I just need to know what I need to use to open and watch the .ISO movies. (I am using Samba on the Ubuntu computer to file share)

An .iso file is a disk image. Burn it to a disk and play it on the other computer.

You don't...

.iso is a disk image which means your going to have to mount it or open it with poweriso or some such program and rip the movie off of it. You cannot "stream" a .iso file.

ISO files are staging files to be burnt to a DVD or CD. You need software to create that final image. ISOs are compressed, and are often used in industry to store an installer image for electronic transfer (rather than by post). The URL below talks in a general case, dealing with how to create Ubuntu install disks. But the same process is used to create a readable/playable DVD of your movie. You may want to look for a convertor from ISO to Divx format if you want the image on your hard drive.
