How do you connect a printer to a wireless d-link computer?

Please help me connect my computer to a network printer, I'm have a lot of trouble doing it?

  • I have googled extensively for the past three days and it's getting to the point where I'm getting visibly annoyed and angry that it isn't working. Hopefully you can help me. :-) I want to connect my desktop computer which is running Windows XP Home Edition, to my printer that is installed on my laptop which is running Windows Vista Home Premium. My printer is a Lexmark 3500-4500 Series. It's a wireless printer and is connected to my laptop via wireless. I've tried solutions offered on the web but had no luck. Currently, I do this on my desktop computer to try and connect to my wireless printer on my laptop:- Start > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > Add a printer > A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer > * This is where I have my problems, when I click browse for a printer nothing comes up and when I try both of the other options trying to connect via typing in the address is still doesn't connect. I try:- \\ben-laptop\lexmark 3500-4500 series It still doesn't work.

  • Answer:

I take it you have enabled file & print sharing on the laptop & "lexmark 3500-4500 series" sounds like the printer description not the shared name.

Try clicking Start > Run > type in "\\ben-laptop" then OK This should show you a list of shared folders and printers on your laptop, right click the printer and click connect

1) Your router should have more than 1 ethernet jack (unless it's a modem with a built-in router). 2) Are you sure the printer is *connected* to the laptop, not to the network? Wireless printers are connected to the network. You may havce installed the printer in the laptop, but that's not connecting to the laptop. Search the network for the printer. (Install a new printer. Network printer. Browse for it. Look on the network, not on the laptop, for it. Let it install.)

You haven't mentioned how your desktop is connected with the laptop. Unless both computers are connected or your desktop also has a wireless connection, you cant connect either the laptop or the printer. Check if both computers are networked.
