How to store a file on the server?

Windows Server Network?

  • This may get kind of confusing, but feel free to email me if you need a visual and I can send a layout. I am currently running the following LAN setup: "Server A"------x1-------16 Port GB Switch(Netgear GS116)-----x15-----GB PCs One port of the 16GB switch is currently feeding back to an 8 port GB switch, plugged into a second "Server B" which contains smaller files that are used regularly by everyone. (Shared directories, data for light weight programs, etc.) "Server A" is used to store all Solidworks models (Large files) Any communication with either server from the Engineering group is going through the GS116. "Server A" has 3 outgoing ports, currently only one is being used. I am looking for a way to add bandwidth to each user, since they are all experiencing very low network performance (5-10%) These are the two designs I have drawn out, but would like some input by anyone who knows networking. "Server A" GB Card 1------------16 Port Switch GS116-----x8----GB PCs (Half the engineers) GB Card 2------------16 Port Switch GS116-----x8-----GB PC's (Half the engineers) GB Card 3------------16 Port Switch 10/100-----x4-----Rest of PC's that don't use Solidworks All three switches in the above design would be L2. This design would spread the bandwidth to 3 different pipes, but another line from the 8 port switch would have to be ran to each new 16 port in order to give those users access to Server B and the internet, correct? The second design: "Server A" GB Card 1------------16/24 Port GB Switch (Managed)-----x16----GB PCs (all the engineers) GB Card 1------------(This line aggregated with above line) GB Card 1------------Current 16 Port Switch (GS116)---------rest of users, printers, etc. Each of the two switches would have a line running to "Server A" for internet access and the smaller file database. The benefit here being the rigged "2GB" line running from "Server B" having double the bandwidth for each file transfer. So, ideas? Thanks in advance!
