How do i see the other computers in Ubuntu while file sharing?

  • I have samba and i was able to share my files with other computers only. I can't see the other computers. This is what I have Places > Networks > Windows Network. Here i have two places to go the file where I have the files where other computers can copy and put files but only my computer show and then on called WORKGROUP. when i click this one it says " unable to mount location failed to retrieve share list from server. I used this video to use the file sharing. I am a Ubuntu newbie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89hjWOb8qmY I have Ubuntu 10.04

  • Answer:

Do you have folders and file sharing enabled on the other machines? I assume they are windows machines? All the computers have to have the same workgroup name.. either WORKGROUP, MY NETWORK, MSHOME or whatever you want to call it. to enable other folders in linux to be shared to the windows machines, either thru synaptic or from the command line get and install system-config-samba from terminal it would be sudo apt-get install system-config-samba
