How do I boot ubuntu?

How do I boot my linux ubuntu 8.1?

  • I have linux ubuntu 8.1 and I recently installed it, but there was an error at the end so I assumed the installation was unsuccessful. But when I attempted to install it again, it showed that there was a 27.5 GB Windows XP partition and a 10 GB linux partition. But the problem is whenever I attempt to boot my computer it boots on XP. By the way, the reason I installed Ubuntu is because I am missing autchk.exe on my XP which causes the system to reboot indefinitley. So now when I turn my computer on it boots into the infite XP boot. The only way I can even use my computer is by running Ubuntu off of the CD. In my last question I was told to reinstall it. But when I go to install it, how do I get rid of the ubuntu partition? Whenever I try to install it it suggests 95% ubuntu and 5% windows and there's no way I'm doing that. Can I somehow delete the old partition first? Thank you :)

  • Answer:

Start XP > Go to Control Panel > select computer administration > select disk management > delete the Ubuntu (unknown) partitions. Download and burn the latest version of Ubuntu - 9.04. Restart your computer with the Ubuntu CD in your drive. When you get to the partitioning section select "install to the largest available free space" If you need further help feel free to contact me. some additional links:
