Wireless Internet not working on Dell Inspiron 910 with Ubuntu, Help?
-
A friend gave me a Dell Inspiron 910, it had a damaged Linux installation and wouldn't boot. I installed the latest Ubuntu (formatting the drive first), but although it runs the wireless internet doesn't show up (It says firmware missing, so I connected to ethernet to update. Updated fine, but wireless still doesn't work). Any Help? Here are my readouts from running lshw -C network: *-network description: Network controller product: BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY vendor: Broadcom Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0 version: 01 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: bus_master cap_list configuration: driver=b43-pci-bridge latency=0 resources: irq:17 memory:f0200000-f0203fff *-network description: Ethernet interface product: RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller vendor: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:04:00.0 logical name: eth0 version: 02 serial: 00:26:b9:ad:55:9f size: 100Mbit/s capacity: 100Mbit/s width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: bus_master cap_list rom ethernet physical tp mii 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=r8169 driverversion=2.3LK-NAPI duplex=full firmware=N/A ip=192.168.0.15 latency=0 multicast=yes port=MII speed=100Mbit/s resources: irq:43 ioport:2000(size=256) memory:f0610000-f0610fff memory:f0600000-f060ffff memory:f0620000-f063ffff *-network DISABLED description: Wireless interface physical id: 1 logical name: wlan0 serial: 00:23:08:e7:40:06 capabilities: ethernet physical wireless configuration: broadcast=yes driver=b43 driverversion=3.0.0-13-generic firmware=N/A multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11bg WARNING: output may be incomplete or inaccurate, you should run this program as super-user. cgriffit@cgriffit-Inspiron-910:~$ cgriffit@cgriffit-Inspiron-910:~$ lshw -C network WARNING: you should run this program as super-user. *-network description: Network controller product: BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY vendor: Broadcom Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0 version: 01 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: bus_master cap_list configuration: driver=b43-pci-bridge latency=0 resources: irq:17 memory:f0200000-f0203fff *-network description: Ethernet interface product: RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller vendor: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:04:00.0 logical name: eth0 version: 02 serial: 00:26:b9:ad:55:9f size: 100Mbit/s capacity: 100Mbit/s width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: bus_master cap_list rom ethernet physical tp mii 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=r8169 driverversion=2.3LK-NAPI duplex=full firmware=N/A ip=192.168.0.15 latency=0 multicast=yes port=MII speed=100Mbit/s resources: irq:43 ioport:2000(size=256) memory:f0610000-f0610fff memory:f0600000-f060ffff memory:f0620000-f063ffff *-network DISABLED description: Wireless interface physical id: 1 logical name: wlan0 serial: 00:23:08:e7:40:06 capabilities: ethernet physical wireless configuration: broadcast=yes driver=b43 driverversion=3.0.0-13-generic firmware=N/A multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11bg WARNING: output may be incomplete or inaccurate, you should run this program as super-user.
