Is it possible to have a chemical change without a physical change?

Is it possible to change pixel size/count without changing physical image size and quality?

  • For example.. Here's the picture [ ] @ 900x800 And then here's the new one, edited [ ] @ 400x300 Same size, different pixels.. (Best way I could explain what I'm trying to ask) I have photoshop, but I cannot find a "How To" guide anywhere. I'm trying to change the pixels for a forum signature. Anyone know of a guide or can explain how to do it?

  • Answer:

It sounds like you resized the image, while reducing the Pixel density. You need to resize it but only change the Pixels number. ie: You need to Highlight the Image then Resize to Pixel Size. It would probably be best to go to the origial Image.

Hi There, It is certainly possible to change size and pixel count. It looks to me like you increased the pixel count (from the 900x800) and the result is 400x300. Your photo still has the same (total) number of pixels but they are more tightly packed. If you simply resize to 900x800 it will be larger but the pixel density will be lower. What you need to do now is resize the picture to 900x800. Look at the pixel count and make sure it stays at the quality you want. You will need to adjust both to get the desired result. You can usually find the size (900x800) and the pixel count in the same dailog box so you just set both at once. I do this often using Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop should be very similar. Once edited; save the photo with a new name so you do not overwrite the original. I usually click "Save as" and insert a "b" or "1" after the file name but before the ".jpg". example: image1.jpg is saved as image1b.jpg. That way if I "mess up" the original is still OK. Hope this helps, Al

If you use Photoshop then at the resize image window you can change size and/or pixel individually. Play with the checkmarks before doing changes.
