Why does my computer make a beeping noise?

My Windows 2000 computer wont stop making this beeping noise. How can I make it stop?

  • I just got an older computer at a yard sale, when I took it home I plugged it in and it worked great. I tested it for viruses with AVG free and it was fine. Then I was working on it and it froze up, so I waited, tried Ctrl-Alt-Delete and it did nothing, so I wait some more, and then I pressed the reset button (by the power button) and started making the beeping sound. I tried turning it off, Ctrl-Alt-Delete, but it wont boot up or stop that noise (unless it's off). Please Help me!

There is something wrong with one of the parts. You can try to determine what's wrong by comparing your beep code to this list here: http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml

The beeping sound/s you hearwhen you first start the computer is most likely the POST (Power On Self Test) Error (beep) codes. Meaning something is wrong. Depending on what BIOS your computer uses the beep/s can mean different things. The links below are for BIOS Errpr Beep codes for different BIOS suppliers.
