Is there a way that i can combine my c drive and my d drive to make it one?

hey there, ok so i stupidly let my friend play with my computer and he reinstalled vista on the d back up drive. So now my question is can i combine the c drive and the d drive to make a new c drive then make a new drive and call it a new back up d drive? Oh also is there a way that i can take the old vista version he left on the c drive and make it not active any more to delete it because it still believes that it is working when it is not. If so can you please tell me how to do it i really need some help !

If those are two different physical drives: no. If those are two different partitions: yes, but you will loose the data on one of them. To delete an operating system you need to delete all data from a hard drive. Ussually the best way is to format since that doesn't leave anything. Only one version of Vista is active and it's the one you choose to boot. If you have no data to save (or if you do then back it up) format all drives and install windows as you want partitioning the hdd/s as you want

If you have 2 separate hard drives, then you can't make them into one complete drive without RAID, which you can't do since you already have a loaded OS on drive D. If you have a single drive with 2 partitions, then you can use a program like partition magic to merge them together. You would first format drive C: then run partition magic to put them back together. Now this may mess up your master boot record, so you would have to run the windows recovery console from your install disk, using the command fixmbr. Once you are loaded back into Vista, you can run partition magic again and slit them up. Even easier though....Reload Vista on your C drive.
If c and d are the same drive and just partitioned into 2, then all you should need is a partition program. I suggest Norton PartitionMagic but I'm sure you could find a free program out there.
