Computer Screen won't turn on?

Computer wont turn on- black screen?

• A couple of days ago my computer wouldn't turn off, it had froze. So I held down the power button so it could power off, it did. The next day I go and try to cut my computer on and everything seems to be fine. It boots up as normal but the screen would go black when it was about to show the log-in screen. You could see the mouse but thats it. I powered it off again and decided to start in safe mode. I was able to get to the log- in screen but it froze. I powered off the computer and decided to leave it alone for a day. Now it's even worse. When I cut on my computer now the light comes on and whatever but nothing on the screen happens. My monitor is working because it says "monitor self test, your monitor is working correctly, check computer monitor and cable". This computer is a bit older. I got it for my 9th birthday and I recently celebrated my 15th b-day. Can anyone recommend what I should do. I've already unplugged-replugged it.
