I tried 1280, 640, and 320 format and I used avi and wmv files to see if a difference, and I tried playing with DVIX, media player and quick time. It looks so grainy and dark on my pc, when I watch youtube or dvds the picture is great..what can I do.?

Answer:
Unfortunately your recorded video is dark and grainy, i too experienced it with sony cameras. But you can improve the quality by post processing the video file. Do you have video editing software which came with camera, if yes try that software to change the briteness as well as noise removal. Otherwise you can use windows movie maker or pinnacle studio(my favorite ).
