How do i connect my guitar to the computer?

Who has info about how to connect a guitar to a computer via preamp?

I'm looking for a way to connect my guitar to my computer for recording. I'm also looking for information (simple, I'm just starting out) on good ways to do so and good softwares FOR PC. Thanks!

-easiest thing to do is to get from radioshack a plug that u put where your cable should go in your multi-effect or pedals (it looks like the head of a regular guitar cable), and get a cable that has the regular mp3 jack on both ends, connect 1 end to the plug and the other to the line in on your computer (mic), connect your guitar normally and rock on! As for softwares, u can start with audacity, it's easy and free, have fun!!
