Can I programmatically disable/enable the physical keyboard?

The Keyboard Mystery, can you Solve it?

  • ok so I have been away for about two weeks, and NOBODY has been at my house (this is a fact, i have insane security plus cameras). I noticed that the left arrow on my keyboard had popped off when i returned. Odd, but i did not think anything of it. I have replaced many keys in my day and know its a tedious process. However, after a lengthy amount a time I realized it would be impossible. Why? because there are three parts to a working key: the key itself and two small plastic parts that assist in its function (im hoping someone knows what i'm talking about) and one of the 2 plastic parts did not work. I checked several other keys, and this one part is different from every key on my keyboard. it clearly has not been altered in any way and it does not attach to the actual key. i can clearly see that nothing has been broken or damaged in any way. I have had this keyboard for a year with no problems until this. there is no way the key could have 'barely hung on' for so long as it will not attach in any way now. So do you see the mystery? how did this little part change into a non working (and different from the rest) piece? i'm absolutely baffled and i was hoping someone with more knowledge than myself might have a solution. thanks guys, and i hope we can solve this mystery! if it helps,it is a wireless, low-profile (thin) HP keyboard

  • Answer:

This is indeed a mystery. I doubt that the parts under this key are really all that different from the parts under all the other keys. Perhaps one of the parts popped off and got lost inside the keyboard, or a small piece of it broke off. As far as why the key popped off, did you actually see it no longer attached to the keyboard when you first saw the keyboard after returning home? Or was it (more likely) that the key had just come loose and you saw it loose, or didn't notice it loose until you were using it? Keys on keyboards do sometimes come loose, and maybe it was just on the edge of popping off when you left, and had gotten looser just through temperature changes.
