How do i know if my computer speakers work?

the green light goes on when i plug them in but my computer doesnt find them so how do i know if the speakers just dont work or how to make them work?

Ok are the speakers connection usb or standard mic port? if its plugged into the speaker port (green or black) then go to Start, Control Panel, Sound And Audio Devices, go to Audio tab and Sound playback/Default Playback drop down box pick your sound device and apply play music see if you hear sounds if now choose another device apply and do that until you hear music after trying that and it didnt work make sure the speakers in the correct port

look for the control panel.........
Plug the pc into a working audio reciever. Aux, or cd will do. put on some headphones and hear if you got output from your pc.
