What are the features of a cpu?

What can l upgrade on a pc computer with this features-socket 478,2,8ghz cpu,256ram,hyperthreading cpu,20gig?

    Your configuration is history. It can do good as a kids pc or basic office pc. Upgrading won't have a considerable benefit. If you want to use anything new and good, you need to scrape that config. Seeing that you don't upgrade too often, I would recommend you buy a mid range Quad Core System so that you won't be severely outdated like now. Also see to that the new system has at least an entry level discrete(standalone) graphics system for future operating systems. You'll hv to spend a little extra, but u will be happy

I would start from the ground up and get the 5 key components of a new computer: - Motherboard (Intel or AMD but at least something dual core) - A Dual Core Processor - 2 Gigabytes of DDR2 Memory - PCI-E Videocard from the Nvidia 7, 8, or 9 series - Sata2 Harddisc I wouldn't spend too much money on the computer you have now but IF you want to upgrade something I'd go for the harddrive and memory. Get 512MB extra and buy a decent-size Harddrive.

the RAM, video card, Ethernet card, and add an additional hard drive with no problems... but why not buy or build a new computer with the Phenon AMD black edition 995... or the Intel i7 quad core.. instead... you'll have a lot more options to go from and all new stuff that has a long shelf life ahead of you.. plus you'll be able to run better software and updated drivers with a lot more head room for upgrades later on like HD graphics, blu-ray, and gaming applications like crossfire and SLI

You will notice most improvement from upgrading the RAM, ideally to 1Gb, and the hard drive. If you want to play the latest games you're really going to need to upgrade the whole thing, but it will be fine for older games and web/email/office stuff. Try reinstalling windows too, if it's still on its original installation it will be getting very slow by now.
