How do you get to paintbrush in Windows XP?

How to get windows xp installed on hard drive?

  • I am trying to do a clean install of windows xp onto a 80gb hitachi pata drive. The hard drive is detected in bios and I can get windows xp to start and verify the computers configuration. Then a blue screen comes up asking if I want to install windows xp to hit enter. When I select enter it asks me then to select f8 to agree to the terms. Then IO get to another blue screen that says if I want to create a partition select c to delete a partitiion select d or select enter to install windows xp. This is when the computer seems to freeze and the only option I can do is to select f3 to quit. I have installed windows xp on other computers without any trouble. If the hard drive is being detected could there possibly be a bad sector on the drive that is causing this problem. I tried another hard drive in the same computer and installed windows xp on that drive just fine. On the 80gb hard drive I have even tried 3 other windows xp discs and all yield the same result, I would really like to use the 80gb drive so if anyone has any suggestions or adivce on how to solve this it would be greatly appreciated.

I would get a diagnostic program to analyze the drive. You should go to the website of your hard drive maker and download a diagnostic utility to check the health of your hard drive. It will be on the website under support. This must be run from bootable floppy, bootable usb, or bootable cd. Best option. OR http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/2005.10.02-MHDD/ Runs from boot floppy or cd and will test any hard drive. OR http://www.hdtune.com/ Runs in windows will test any hard drive. The program from the hard drive maker is the best because they know the drive the best and how to test it. So you cannot select either c or d (create or delete partition) during install. Have you tried to use another program to delete partitions and reformat, then try the windows install? Try gparted from the link below. Good luck

theres no way u kan.its not possible.try asking the windows peeople i think at http://microsoft.com u could ask them there.or u kould kall them and ask them how.

Check the suspect drive first. You should be able to find a drive checking utility at the Hitachi site. I realize you don't want to trash the drive, but hard drives do fail eventually. There's no use spending a lot of effort to use a dying drive. If the drive can't pass a diagnostic test, you're better off dumping it. About the only other thing you can try is to find a low level formatting utility. They really don't do a complete low level format, but it's more comprehensive than a normal format.
