What's the difference between DVD and Bluray?

Whats the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R?

  • I have heard that -R is readable in most DVD players and that +R's last longer, etc etc But what I want to know is.... What is the difference as far as physical properties on the disk? Do they use different dye? pits and lans, etc etc....? And WHY is it that -R's are accepted in most DVD players and WHY +'s arent.... I am a computer nerd and I was stumped when a family member asked me what the difference was today. It's not that important to me since my DVD burner and DVD player handles both + and - The only info I found in my very brief research was that + is better for data and - is better for video, but that's not a clear enough explanation for me. SOMEONE out there must know.

Yes I agree, with you but I don't know :) GoodLuck!

lets put it simple. a +R will not work in ALL older dvd recorder nor older dvd players. -r will work on all players and all recorders. :) unless ur positive u that ur computers burner supports +R leave it alone. get a pack of -r. as for tech answer. there is none they both write data in a very simliar form. the difference is too small to notice. this is just a older bluray and hddvd problem but the + and - R problem has now been solved with modern day players and recorders. cheers.
