What is a good start-up sound system?

What does this sound indicate ?

  • there's a very faint (little) sound coming from my CPU. It can be heard only, if u concentrate on it & switch off the room fans etc..It usually occurs at the startup 0f wind0ws & sometimes occur at random times... Probably, its the harddisk producing that faint sound. I havnt noticed any problem with the System performance or anythng else...I just wanna know that is it normal ? This sound is none of those sounds which indicate that the hard-drive is gonna crashed... Guide me plZ tnX.. The system is Pentium D, Optiplex GX620

It probably is the hard drive. When windows is starting there is a lot of disc accessing. See if it coincides with the disk activity light on the front of the case. Hard drive crashes are not always accompanied with warning sounds just as windows won't always warn you either. If you are concerned, here is a link to a system checker, it's free. http://www.piriform.com/speccy
