Why won't my PC work on my TV?

Connecting a PC to a TV with S-video and RCA, but won't work.?

  • We've been at this all day trying to figure out how to connect our computer (s video) to our tv (RCA). We have an NVidea 7600 GS card and it supports this sort of thing, but no matter what we do, the TV just won't respond. Its on. Its on the right channel (only has a TV/Vid). We had to use the "force detection" option in the video card because the TV wasn't being detected. We set the resolutions low enough, we set it between clone and dual display. Region is correct. Nothing seems to be working. As far as the cable goes, we are using a 3 inch 7-pin S video to RCA (female) and then a 4 ft RCA (male) to RCA (male) to plug it into the TV. However, the TV is old. The TV works fine with recent DVD players, etc but I was curious if the TV was just too old for the PC to project its screen to, no matter how we set things up... Now, when I plug the s video in, I can see that the TV is trying to show something (it flickers a bit till the plug is firmly in), but that's it. Nothing else happens besides a blank screen. Please help!

I just put an AGP graphics card, with S-Video, in a old tower with Windows 2000. Lousy card by today's standards but a major upgrade for this computer. Anyway I too hooked it up to a regular TV with the S-Video. Here is what I discovered with my set up. The TV does not show the S-Video channel (input) on the TV screen unless the cable is plugged in. I thought that was strange. I chose the Dual View in the NVidia Manager, picking Analog and TV because I want my CRT monitor to be the primary and for the desktop to show just on that only. I want to use the TV to just watch videos. The Video Manager set the resolutions itself for both the CRT monitor and the TV. I changed the CRT resolution because it was making my screen huge but did not mess with the TV setting. Figure that it set the TV at what it wanted to be set at. Now everything is horizontal. My mouse goes from left to right starting in the CRT monitor and ending up on the TV. I then opened and dragged my video player from the CRT to the TV. I can now see the desktop on the CRT (and go online, open folders, etc) and watch videos on the TV at the same time. The cool thing is that when I shut down the computer and turn it back on it remembers the position of the video player so I do not have to drag it back to the TV again. I resurrected this old tower just for this. I keep telling people that new technology is cool but older technology still serves a purpose too. We should not be so quick to dismiss it and call it useless. I hope some of this rambling helps. Good Luck.

Your Tv is probably too old, it cannot handle the resolutions needed.

I remember trying similar thing before. S-video to RCA does not work and neither cheep Computer to TV splitter/converter sold through RadioShack. After trying all this crap I abandoned attempts for couple of years untill I discovered TV Media Players( I have non-HD one). It is very simple. Download video, music or pictures on your computer. Copy it to thumb(flash) drive. Insert thumb drive to TV Media Player and play them on TV. It only takes few minutes to copy files on flash drive.
