How to turn off boot splash screen?

Hp p6210y won't boot past splash screen.?

  • ----------------------------------------… My dad gave me a computer that he was told the motherboard was bad. I was going to try and fix it to make a HTPC. After some Googling I tried a few things to no avail so I came to the experts. :) Starting with the specs: Windows 7 Motherboard M2N78-LA (Violet) AMD Athlon II X4 620 •Operating speed: Up to 2.6 GHz •Number of cores: 4 •Socket: AM3 •Bus speed: 4000 MHz HT3 Memory 6 GB •Amount: 6 GB •Speed: PC2-6400 MB/sec Video graphics Integrated graphics using nVidia GeForce 9100*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed. •Integrated graphics using nVidia GeForce 9100. •Supports concurrent use of dual displays connected to onboard DVI and VGA connectors. •Also supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards as independent graphics adapters.* Sound/Audio Integrated Realtek ALC888S Audio*Integrated audio is not available if a sound card is installed. •Audio CODEC: Realtek ALC888S •High Definition 8 channel audio •Supports one S/PDIF digital connection Hard drive 640 GB •Size: 640 GB •Interface: SATA •Transfer rating: 3.0 Gb/sec •Rotational Speed: 7200 RPM When you start the computer the "splash" screen comes up then nothing else. If you start it up and try to hit one of the "F" keys sometimes it will go to that function other times nothing. I pulled out the ram and turned it on and got the prereqisite beeps which I assume means the mobo is ok (I think). If you diconnect the DVD drive then you get a "bootmgr missing" error. Sometimes you start it up with the recovery disk in the drive and it starts "loading windows files" and stops about half way and seems to just be stuck. I guess I don't really know where to start. I have read that if I change the mobo I won't be able to use the recovery disk because HP has some kind of link with the mobo and the BIOS. I have no floppy so not sure about "flashing" the BIOS. I did remove the battery to reset the CMOS and still having boot troubles. Sooooo now I turn to you guys for some help. I also pulled out the memory and trie each one individually with no luck.

there are lots of things it could be you should not be trying to boot yet you you must concentrate on getting the bios running well first remove all connectors to hard drives and optical drives DO NOT RECONNECT until PC is WORKING again ======================================… do not have any usb devices connected we do this a because booting and rebooting a Processor or a Hard drive is very bad for them. The processor pumps heat out each time its switched on and it takes a good few minutes to lose that heat. its only safe to re boot about once every 2 or 3 minutes or so. we must check the obvious remove the cmos battery and check its volts if less than 2.95V reject it it may not have enough oomph to keep the cmos stable and that contains all your processor memory configuration replace any battery more than 3yrs old anyway. it would be very handy if you had a lot less powerful cpu if you have another then use that for the moment(one that is known to be good) your chip is SUSPECT look for Domed capacitors on the mobo if it has any stand up ones. This causes wandering of timing signals and can do the things you describe. They need desoldering and replacing. Although a lot of modern boards have very few of them. as much as you can you must check your power supply make sure +/_ 12V are reasonable good 11.5 to 12.5 should be fine make sure 5volts is as close 5v as possible. make sure the extra connectors are right too. if your mobo has extra sockets for onboard video or extra 4 pin or 6 pin sockets then these must be working and connected to supply enough power to the board. memory must be reliable. reduce the memory down to one or two dimms depending on what the board allows. if you dont progress further during testing then keep a note of which dimm did not work and switch over to the next one. Note:most mobos do not start unless the dimm is in a particular socket(the 1st one) with the new battery fitted, and a low power cpu if available, and single or lowest memory configuration, clear the cmos when you clear the cmos and change cpu the system must try hard to get the right settings and may not boot the first time. give it at least 30 seconds of on time before rebooting. Use the reset to boot not the on off switch. do this until the system boots and immediately enter the bios. choose SET DEFAULTS and save the bios and re-boot immediately on boot re-enter the bios start checking the settings choose correct memory timing make sure cpu is configured correctly in addition choose the best alarm settings for fan speed and cpu temperature set them in the middle choose all simple settings for everything if you are ok then exercise the pc inside the bios keep running the ram test repeatedly and see how confident you get with it if it ever fails, turn off and try a different dimm. do this for all dimms until you know which are good and which are bad, reject any failed dimms(for the time being) are we succesful? NO......might be mobo...might still be cpu(but if you know its goodthen obviously its not) ...might still be power supply if the system is ok add in all the memory and do the bios ram tests on it if you are happy and still on the replacement cpu, then fit the original cpu now spend time in the bios re-running memory tests if it fails then suspect the cpu but dont reject it until you make sure of the timings and configuration if everything is now ok then add the hard drive but make sure you dont boot it yet restart and enter the bios run mem tests and hard drive non destructive tests the system should be 100% reliable if you get past that then perhaps the system is ok now and all you have really done is fitted a new cmos battery hope this helps.
