  • ~ Is it time to buy a new gaming computer? Or should I spend money on my 3 year old computer and upgrade it? I'm not really good with computers, so I'm gonna need a hand. I bought my PC 3 years ago and now I am having a hard time trying to figure out is it best to buy a new one or to upgrade mine? I don't have a huge budget, but I can manage to spend £400-£500 on computer software Here are the specs: Acer M1610 Intel® Pentium® Processor E2160 @ 1.80GHz (2 CPUs) 1024MB RAM GeForce GT220 I also did an internet speed test at speedtest.net and got the following result: Tiscali UK Limited Ping 54 ms Download Speed - 2.83 Mbps Upload Speed - 0.06 Mpbs My computer can handle the some games without lagging thanks to my GeForce I bought a year ago, however it does lag a lot when I open games that occupy huge memory. Also my internet does not please me at all! I am thinking about changing it, but I need a good advice. At the moment I have constant disconnections, lack of speed, slow streaming. It gets on my nerves really What I want is a computer that can handle mostly online games my main concern is the waiting time of the internet, but I'm not sure if that has to do with my computer or if I'm just that bad at trying to fix it. I'm quite sure that it's just my internet provider that really sucks. What do you guys recommend? Please ask questions if you need any details! I will be checking this question frequently :) Thanks.

  • Answer:

You can upgrade to Intel Core-i3/i5/i7 Processor & 4 GB of RAM (DDR3) for gaming purposes. Your graphics card is fine. If you play only online games then, you don't need to upgrade your PC. Your internet download speed looks fine. But, If you are having problems then, you might want to switch to a new service provider...

Are you running 32bit or 64bit OS? You need more RAM first of all. If you bought your computer 3 years ago than you bought it when it was outdated. Desktops are generally pretty cheap. I bought mine from Best Buy for $500 for the tower. It came with 8GB ram, AMD Phenom II x4 processors, and 9100 GeForce graphics chipset. While many people say these graphics are subpar, I am currently running games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Rage (thought to be one of the most demanding games currently on PC). Stick your GT220 in it to make it so you dont have to run minimum graphics. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Pavilion-P6320Y-DESKTOP-PC-AMD-Phenom-II-X4-820-500gb-8GB-Windows-7-/260890696692?pt=Desktop_PCs&hash=item3cbe4c1bf4 One on Ebay currently seller refurbished. I wouldn't buy it out, but offer them about $75 less than asking price. Just a suggestion.

Just depends on what you can afford. That PC is well outdated but if you have the money a new one is the way to go. An update is not worth it, although you can double the RAM in the meantime.
