Windows Media TV Tuner Channels?

Hooking up cable box to PC TV Tuner stick - what am I doing wrong here?

  • I got cable in the apartment I moved into two weeks ago. I am going to get a TV eventually, but the past year just have been using an HD TV Tuner stick with an antenna to get OTA broadcast TV on my PC. I have tried several times to unsuccessfully to get Windows Media Center or Arcsoft 3.5 Total Media to work with the cable box. It seems to me I should just be able to attach the cable one would attach to the tv. Then scan for the channels selecting the Cable option and have the TV stick pick it up. That is how it works with the antenna. When I have done that with the cable box attached, it detects nothing. Not even one channel. The cable connection is attached to wall and secure to the box. I have taken the RF cable and that is what I have connected to the TV Stick. Do I need some other connection like a video cable? My computer is an all in one, and only has USB ports. So, that might be difficult to find the right video cable. It is Comcast cable. Maybe it just won't work with their technology? The cable guy helped as much as he could. He did confirm the comcast signal is coming through and the box is operating correctly. There is nothing wrong with my software (Media Center or Total Media 3.5 - works great with antenna). Just feel this should be able to work but isn't. If anyone has any troubleshooting ideas or a solution please help. I hate to be paying for cable already and not be able to watch. I anticipate getting a tv over the next month or so, but sure would like this until I do. Thanks.
