What will happen if I reformat my hard disk?

Recovery disk doesn't work.?

  • Here's a list of off the recent problems i've been having with my computer: -My wireless signal is there but when I click on internet explorer the screen is blank. -My sound went out. Something about the driver, but I managed to fix that. -Recovery WILL NOT work at all! -Media player is all screwed up, it'll play a song but it won't stop. -When I tried to reformat the computer (with the restoration disk) but NOTHING WILL HAPPEN! -When I restart my laptop it informs me that my wireless dll has not been registered. I don't know what that means, but i do know that for some reason my wireless adapter is no longer on my computer, it's as if it just vanished! NOTE: ALL OF THIS HAS HAPPEN IN ONE DAY! I appreciate any sort of advice. I love my laptop, Ted. Yes, I named it. Notebook model: Gateway MX6426

its sounds lieje you are having a VIRUS infection! i agree with the previous person. YOu should back up all iof your important files, and then try to formal your pc back to the manufacteres settings. you have to do a desctructive recovery. you may have the backup program on discs that were provided when you bought ur pc, or it may be on your hard drive partition. good luck!

Do not use the recovery disk, try to format the system with regular operating system disk (Windows XP or Windows Vista). After, re-try to use the recovery disk to restore everything back to its origin. This should solve your problem.

What you need to do is to Reboot your computer, when your computer starts to reboot, start tapping the F10 key. You should get an Option for Destructive Recovery and Non Destructive recovery. Choose the Non Destructive Recovery (Not advanced) and see if that will help your problems. If it doesn't then you will need to do the Destructive recovery which will get rid of everything on your PC and put back to the way it was the day your bought it. DESTRUCTIVE -(ADVANCED)- WILL ERASE EVERYTHING NON DESTRUCTIVE-(NOT ADVANCED)-WILL LET YOU KEEP YOUR FILES

Wow, sounds like you got some sort of virus or something... Burn anything important to CD and set that aside. Next, run this to completely erase all the programs, data, etc. on the hard-drive: http://www.killdisk.com/ This will write zeros over EVERYTHING and make the drive completely blank as if it was new. 1. download the file and make the bootdisk 2. boot from the bootdisk 3. select "Active @ KILLDISK" 4. select the heading of your disk (not just the partition) 5. press F10 to perminantly erase it 6. press F10 again and follow directions to confirm Now, put in your recovery CD and reboot. Press [enter] if it asks about booting from CD. Now, follow the directions to do a complete factory recovery. Last, AFTER INSTALLING AND UPDATING ANTIVIRUS, copy your files back from the CDs you made and run a full virus scan BEFORE opening any of them.
