How do I programmatically change the label of a mapped drive?

Moved 1TB WD Hard Drive to another computer, files and partition are gone?

  • Had a hard drive fail on one of my machines that hosted a mapped network drive to a 1TB Western Digital drive I had with about 500gb of important data on it. So I pulled the drive out and put it in my main machine, again as a slave, so I could work on my files. Drive came up under Computer after reboot but when I click it Windows asks to format it. Seems there's no partition or information on the drive? Where did it all go, I didn't change anything even remotely.. Thanks.

  • Answer:

What shows up under 'Disk Management'? You can get to it by typing "diskmgmt.msc" into the 'Run' bar.

Hello Mr; First you may need to check the BIOS to determine if it compatible with that size of drive. Bios may only be able to reach a portion and not complete. The very first cylinder on a drive is what has information for BIOS and an operating system. Older BIOS are limited to size. Again, BIOS can be upgraded if this a problem. BIOS has a number and manufacture that you can search for spec's. Good luck tom
