Why won't my PC start?

Why wont my custom pc start?

  • I received all the parts for my computer today and as soon as i hooked it up and tried to start it nothing happened. There's a green light on my motherboard that turns on that reads "Boot_device_LED" and stays on as long as the power supply is turned on. Also, there's a button that reads "MemOK" and when I hold that button down (while the power supply is turned on) after a few seconds, all the fans turn on, and all the lights turn on for only half a second and then everything dies just as fast once again. I've checked and rechecked to be sure everything is plugged in but absolutely nothing is working. Here's my specs: PSU: Antec EA-750 Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield 2.93GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor BX80605I7870 Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" HDD Crucial 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory ASUS P7P55D-E LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard SAPPHIRE 100283L Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 Support Video Card Any help ASAP would be very helpful. Thanks

  • Answer:

You could reset then BIOS and the power it back on. This seems to work on new boards. Other wise it could be a problem with RAM/CPU or even fans. Try unplugging the components except the video card/RAM/CPU then try to start it. if it starts then shut down and plug in 1 device at a time and power up after each item.

incompatible motherboard with your processor? wrongly installed hard drive? faulty RAM? too many possibilities, but how many sticks of RAM do you got? and did you test each one? I would see if your mobo is compatible with your processor. Did you install the processor yourself? and if so did you fail to ground yourself. Your bios is a seperate chip which works on its own best of luck, but you always have static electricity on you, it is best to ground yourself before touching an expensive super fragile processor. (anti static gloves or touch the ground) Everything else is not fragile and very hard to break. Another possibility, you hooked up your hard drive wrong? Never touch your processor. 'unless you have to' you might of ****** up your 400 dollar processor by not grounding yourself. your computer will boot off of 1 stick of ram so try booting with only one in. and if that doesnt work try the other, and then put em both in if thats not a problem. Your motherboard also has a built in video card(onboard), so try booting without your card. this is also another simple way to see if your video card is screwed. if you touched your processor without touching the ground, you may have screwed it over. the most sensitive most important part of the computer is the most easiest wrecked. If you touch your hair, you have static electricity. So what you said may be false. Best of luck, computers are amazingly simple to set up, amazingly simple to **** up. If your hard drive isnt connected properly then your computer won't turn on either. Your bios should be working fine. Why wouldn't it be, its not second hand.. Another possibility, do you have an adequate power supply? I believe disconnecting the battery on your mobo will reset your bios after 5 or so minutes. But that should do diddly squat. maybe a fan is shorting out causing a break in the circuit.... I really do not know. That would only apply to your hard drive anyhow.
