My computer won't recognize my SD card.

Computer doesn't recognize SD card?

  • Okay so very recently I've come up with a huge problem. On my laptop is an SD card reader that I've been using often to transfer files from my camera into my computer. However, recently I got an 8 GB SD card for a very expensive camera, and so I put it in my computer to transfer some videos. I was able to, but before I plugged it out, I right clicked the driver (for the sd card) and clicked safely remove. But now when I put the expensive sd card in, it doesn't register what so ever. In fact, even the old sd card doesn't respond to the computer. Using vista, and was wondering if my sd card reader "shut off" or something?

  • Answer:

Try updating the driver. It could be a simple software/driver issue. *EDIT* Click on the sart menu then right click on computer and choose manage. You should see an option for Device Manager. Click on it. This should bring up a list of devices. You need to click the arrow next to each device to expand the drop down and see the actual device. Once you have located your device just right click and choose update driver software. You will need an internet connection for this. Another option is if your computer came with a driver disc then you can install from the disc. Good Luck!
