Good small gaming pc?

Is This A Good Custom Built Small Gaming PC?

  • So i am going to be building a PC and i was wondering if this hardware is worth buying. * NZXT Phantom PHAN-001BK Black Steel / Plastic Enthusiast ATX Full Tower Computer Case * Patriot 16GB DDR3 1333 Memory * Intel Core I3 3.2 GHZ * Nvidia GT 430 1GB DDR3 * OCZ 120GB SSD 6/GBS * CD-ROM Drive 64X * 550 Watt ATX Power Supply

  • Answer:

I would call it fair. Personally, I would go for more current board in the Z68 class, with a 2nd Gen I5 CPU. The ODD shoud at least be DVD. These days, they are commodity CD/DVD reader/writers, and sell for under $30. I think any of them, for base reading/writing, have peaked in performance. If you already have the SSD, that is fine, but would prefer an HDD for more ephemeral data, to keep SSD wear to a minimum. While I am not up on GPUs (I am not a heavy gamer, but more into Home Theater), I would agree to spend more on that and less on other parts, maybe cut back to an i3 CPU and 4GB RAM.

You are spending too much on the SSD and not enough on the video card. Modern game performance is 90% based on the video card. The GT series doesn't cut it. Look for a NVidia GTX550 or better or a Radeon HD6850 or better video card if you expect ro play games on High settings. The SSD is nice for fast booting and loading, but you will overflow the 120 GB quickly. The SSD does not help game play performance in a major way once the game has loaded. 8 GB is enough RAM for gaming, the additional is nice if you are doing serious graphics.video.music production or virtual machines. The i3 is OK, if you have the money an i5 is ideal. How much are you spending? If it is a budget constraint, install a hard drive instead of the SSD http://www.computer-answers.ca/2011/computer-questions/q-can-i-build-a-gaming-computer-under-2000-dec-2011-edition/

If you're only going to be gaming then cut that 16GB in half, because you don't even really need 8GB. 6GB will do you more than enough justice with ANY GAME! Also, your 3.2Ghz i3 is great. If you can, go for an i5, but it's not that big a deal. your current CPU will still do you proper justice. Now your graphics card, that NEEDS to be replaced with a GTX560ti. A GT 430 is really quite poor. Also, I hope ''CD-ROM Drive 64X'' is a typo, because you'll be needing a DVD drive if yo wanna play games. Get a DVD re-writer. Power would need a bit of an improvement though. A good brand 700W will be great. My current specs are as follows: Pentium Dual-Core CPU E5700 @3GHz (2 CPU's). EVGA GeForce GTX 460 Superclocked EE 1GB GDDR5 (OC to 870Mhz core and 4Ghz mem) Dual-function Vizo Fan aftermarket GPU cooler (with blue LEDs) 3GB DDR2 system ram (2 memory chips) Asus P5KPL-VM/S motherboard 700W 80% efficient Huntkey PSU 820GB Seagate SATA 2 HDD (500+320) A1981W LCD Monitor (1680x1050 native) CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device (7.1 Surround Sound) XP SP3 32bit And I can max out Crysis 1 at 1680x1050, with all settings set at VERY HIGH and 16QAA. And my average fps during the Crysis GPU benchmark is 34fps.
