How can I fix my graphics card after installing wrong drivers(blank screen)?
-
Ok, recently I was trying to play a game, but the screen flickered when I tried to play that specific game, so I checked the name of the graphics card in my computer in the Device Manager and downloaded and installed a driver. My graphics card is: MSI NX7800 Series but there are 2 of them in the computer, and they're connected by a thin black "bridge" of some sort(pardon my ignorance). So, during the installation of the driver a yellow balloon type thing popped up in the lower-right corner saying something about SLI. I ignored the balloon and installed the driver. After that the screen went black, I tried restarting and it was still black. I then tried removing the graphics cards and connecting the screen to the on-board motherboard card, turned on the computer and got an image on the screen. I tried to find some way to install the driver and when I failed in that I tried System Restoring to 3 days earlier, the shutting down, re-installing the graphics cards, connecting the screen to them, turning on and then I still got a black screen. I believe I installed a wrong driver or perhaps even a virus. Even if I connect the screen to the motherboard the screen is black, as long as the graphics cards are installed. How can I fix this? PLEASE help me! :(

Answer:
I assume you are using Windows. You need to enter safe mode; http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm Check out that site for how to enter safe mode. Once there, you should be able to load windows without it using any non-generic graphics drivers. Then, you should reinstall a good driver.

Take both cards out and use the mother board to at least get a good virus scan in. did you remember to uninstall the bad driver before installing the new one? If not you need to do that
No its not a virus, you just need the new drivers from Nvidia's site.
yea, uninstall the nvidia drivers before installing new ones. couple ways to do it, there is an nvidia removal tool and a web search will bring it up. An acceptable way i have found to usually work just fine is to use the windows uninstaller, the nvidia drivers should be listed as a program in the programs list. uninstall them and restart. Obviously, since your graphics aren't working, you need to start the computer in safe mode. tap the f8 key repeatedly as the computer is starting and select safe mode with networking. that will get you internet access. Get the nvidia drivers uninstalled and download new drivers from nvidia's website. nvidia.com then the download drivers menu. Select your card (7800) and your operating system version and it will give you the latest stable driver release. download and install that driver and you should be in good shape.
